Growing up, I had always been into music and equipment but never really played an instrument or had nice sound systems. A few years after high school, I began learning guitar. Like a lot of us, I really fell in love with it, especially the idea of having a band with friends! It wasn’t long until I was saving up and buying different gear, guitars, pedals, amps etc. Even though I wasn’t much of a guitar talent, I still was having fun with it all and found myself really into the different gear that could be used with the electric guitar.
In 2007, I was in a band with some friends, and we needed another guitar amp. I was on Ebay when I came across this Orange AD15. At this point, I didn’t know anything about Orange. It was a small tube amp and the price was right so I bought it. That amp changed everything for me. The tone was incredible and I loved the look of it. I had to know more about Orange. I began researching and learning as much as I could about all their amps. One day I found the Orange Amps forums. Back then, the forum was a great place to learn things and meet like-minded individuals. This is where I learned some of Orange’s history and the fact that they made more than just guitar and bass equipment! This blew my mind!
I was now selling off any amps and things I had that were not Orange and starting to collect cool AD Series amplifiers and even Orange advertisements.

My Story

Welcome to Vintage Orange Amplification, a place to explore Orange’s vintage gear and history from 1968-1979. You may already be familiar with our online social media groups. These groups are a great resource for information and a good place to buy and sell Vintage Orange related items. The downside to the social media groups is that content and posts get lost over time. I like to help educate and connect people, so we felt that having a permanent area with easily accessible information was necessary.
You can also contact us directly through our contact page if you have any questions or are selling any Vintage Orange related items. Buyers looking for a specific piece can also feel free to contact me, as I sometimes am able to connect sellers and buyers. If you have a catalogue, advertisement or something that you see we are missing and want to send your scans to us for the website, that would be appreciated!
This site is not endorsed by Orange Amplifiers. Everything here is a combination of physically owned property, knowledge we’ve learned along the way, photography or scans that we’ve been given the rights to share, and information released publicly by Orange or Matamp.

Keeping the Spirit Alive!

Then and still to this day, I could not get over the fact that Orange had made and rebranded such a wide variety of products from 1968-1979. I knew that once I was able to start collecting again, my focus would shift toward the vintage era. At the time, I wasn’t getting a lot of straight forward answers on how the DJ and PA stuff worked. I had to figure out how to properly use a lot of the gear; and along the way I even figured out other ways I could utilize it as well. This led me to realizing that there was a need for a vintage-based group. As my vintage collection grew, “new” pieces almost always needed some type of maintenance or repair upon arrival. Once again, it was time to learn more! Restoring these old pieces is something I’ve really enjoyed doing. Every piece has its story and that’s another thing I love about the gear.
By 2019 there still wasn’t much of a vintage community. I noticed it was lost within all the modern social media groups and questions were hardly being answered. The right people were not seeing it. It was time to bring the vintage-based community together. So we started the Vintage Orange Amplification Facebook and Instagram social media groups. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how those groups have turned out. They are a respectful place to enjoy and learn about Vintage Orange. I have met some amazing people here and have even become close friends with some. Even though we live in different countries, Dave and I talk regularly, like family. I can’t thank him enough for some of the knowledge he has graciously passed onto me.
Once the social communities were rolling, I was ready to do more and wanted to do something different. So I started talking with my good friend and old band mate, Anthony. He is also a bit of an Orange collector and I can’t thank him enough for all of his help over the years. In 2020, Anthony and I decided to form a DJ company in which we would only use Vintage Orange Amplification. We have had so much fun entertaining and playing music for people through these kits. We upgraded the drivers to withstand deeper frequencies and to push the cabs further than they could in the past. This gear just sounds incredible. Most of this equipment is around 50 years old and the quality just amazes me. It’s truly built tough for the road and gives you reliable performance.
We put a lot of time and effort into our passion for Vintage Orange. Working hard over the years, we have compiled a wide variety of historical Orange artifacts. We thought it would be a crime if we didn’t start to share this with all of you. So for 2022, here is the Vintage Orange Amplification Website! There will be many cool aspects to this and I hope you enjoy it. I appreciate those of you that have supported this mission over the years. It has been a fun journey so far. I hope to Keep the Spirit Alive for many years to come!
Cheers,
Andy
For a while now, I had been learning about the vintage side of Orange. Then in 2013, I found an Orange Bouncer cabinet with a 12-channel mixer came up for sale near me. I knew it was time to make my first vintage purchase. Having to decide between one or the other since I didn’t have much money, I bought the Bouncer cabinet while the 12-channel mixer sold to someone else. I could not have been happier when it arrived! I eventually found my first PA120 to pair with it so I could start to figure out how the heck all this PA and DJ equipment worked. This really sparked my passion for the rare and unique things that Orange produced. I wanted to piece together an Orange sound system, but this stuff wasn’t easy to find.
By 2015 I had a nice collection of Orange going on, but I was faced with some life changing events that led me to sell a lot of my belongings. The band I was in was also starting to fizzle out. I managed to hang onto my first AD15 that started it all for me, and a few other pieces. Even though times were down, it didn’t stop me from continuing to learn as much as I could about Orange. I knew that I soon would be back on my feet!
